A unique event in the largest river island in the world, to connect more with yourself, nature, artforms and more. Are you ready for this retreat?
Sunday, Jan 30th
The culture of Majuli has its roots in the tradition of Bhakti – self awareness through ecstatic devotion to the sacred. This sense of devotion derives from a sense of compassionate connection – with nature, the formless and with all our fellow humans. And it is this sense of connection that is most lacking from our breathless, consumption driven, fragmented lives.
It is the sense of devotion that will be the underlying theme in our retreat. We will get to immerse in the basic elements of Borgeet, the devotional singing tradition that originates in the Neo-Vaishnavism of Assam.
Through the ancient, embodied wisdom tradition of Kalarippayattu, we shall discover our inner warrior spirit – defined by intentionality, focus, commitment, humility, service, compassion, and kindness.
Through the practice of yoga and pranayama, and reflections on the wisdom of the scriptures, we shall find our still centre, and through practical work based on the Natyashastra, the ancient Indian treatise on aesthetic philosophy, we will explore the profound connection between our bodies, our breath, and our emotions – a connection that contemporary neuroscience has started to study only in recent years.
Through sessions on somatic work we will delve into the innate awareness of our bodies, and from that place of body wisdom find connections with the living environment of Majuli – the natural ambience, the artist and artisans, and the members of the indigenous Mising community, through walks, interactions, and exchanges.
This retreat is suitable for:
You will get a deeper understanding of Majuli. Also you will return not only physically rejuvenated, but also with a framework to understand the deep connections between our bodies and our emotions, and how we can harness their power to be fully present in our professional and personal lives.

If you're a Shoshin Tribe Member you are able to attend this retreat for ₹35,499/- only.
Majuli, in the Indian state of Assam, one of the largest river islands in the world, is a place of beauty and magic. Shaped for ages by the mighty waters of the River Brahmaputra, it is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, and also indigenous tribes. Steeped in the legacy of the great 14th -15th century neo-Vaishnavite saint Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, Majuli has since his time been the centre of the flowering of Assamese culture.
The Satras or religious centres of Majuli, have nurtured the evolution of forms of devotional singing (such as Borgeet), theatre (Ankiya Naat, Bhaona), the Sattriya dance, mask making, manuscript writing and more, while the island is also home to traditions of boat making, woven bamboo crafts, pottery and the many cultural and ritual practices of the indigenous tribes who live
here.
You will be staying at Dekasang Resort, a traditional style resort located on the banks of the River Luit, offering a serene and authentic staying experience with sumptuous food, while at the same time ensuring modern amenities.
